2026–27 tuition rate
Tuition for the MASDS program is charged at $1,267 per unit for Academic Year 2026–27. Each standard course is 4 units, so tuition for one course is $5,068. Students must also pay student services fees, campus-based fees, UCSHIP health insurance unless waived, and other required fees.
Regular UCLA graduate tuition and nonresident supplemental tuition do not apply to the MASDS program; MASDS uses its own per-unit program tuition.
MASDS tuition is cohort-based. If program tuition increases in a future year, the increase applies to future entering students; a student's MASDS tuition rate remains locked at the price in effect when they entered the program. UCLA student fees and campus-based fees may still change.
Example quarterly costs with UCSHIP health insurance
These examples use the 2026–27 program tuition rate and 2026–27 UCLA student fee amounts. UCSHIP is included because health insurance is automatic for UCLA students unless a waiver is approved.
| Cost component | Fall quarter | Winter quarter | Spring quarter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Estimated fees | $3,218.70 | $3,123.26 | $3,122.55 |
| Tuition for 1 course (4 units) | $5,068.00 | $5,068.00 | $5,068.00 |

| Estimated total for 2 courses | $13,354.70 | $13,259.26 | $13,258.55 |
Example quarterly costs with UCSHIP health insurance waived
Students who already have qualifying health insurance may apply to waive UCSHIP, the UCLA student health insurance plan. If approved, the UCSHIP charge is credited back and the quarterly total is lower.

|---|---|---|---|
| Estimated fees without UCSHIP | $713.04 | $617.60 | $616.59 |
| Tuition for 1 course (4 units) | $5,068.00 | $5,068.00 | $5,068.00 |

More than tuition: resources included with UCLA enrollment
MASDS students can access UCLA technology, research, library, transportation, and recreation resources.
- Hoffman2 high-performance computing cluster supports advanced research computing. A UCLA faculty or research sponsor is required.
- UCLA Library online resources include subscribed journals, books, and databases from SAGE, Wiley, SpringerLink, and other publishers. Coverage varies by title and license.
- Graduate Writing Center offers writing workshops and thesis support.
- Bruin Grad Pass provides eligible graduate students with access to LA Metro, LADOT Commuter Express, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, plus more.
- UCLA Recreation includes facilities such as the John Wooden Center, Kinross Recreation Center, pools, stadium facilities, and tennis courts.
Availability and eligibility vary; some resources require account activation, applicable campus fees, or current-quarter enrollment.
UCSHIP health insurance waiver option
UCSHIP is the health insurance charge shown in the fee table. Health insurance is mandatory for UCLA students, and UCSHIP enrollment is automatic. Students may apply to waive UCSHIP if they already have qualifying alternative health insurance.
